2024 was my first full year in the fountain pen hobby, the year I got into planners and the year I joined the online stationery community. So it’s fair to say it was a big year for me, and an expensive year, as I fell down a lot of rabbit holes!
As you can imagine, there were a lot of misses this year as I experimented with pens and inks and discovered my likes and dislikes, but there were also a lot of hits. And so I thought I’d do a post celebrating my favourite stationery items of 2024!
The problem is, this post was going to be way too long if I delved into all the areas of stationery I wanted to, so I’ve decided to split the post in two. This first part will focus on pens and inks, whilst the second part will cover everything else, from notebooks and planners, to pen cases and washi tapes.
So let’s dig into my favourite pens of 2024!
My Top 3 Fountain Pens of 2024:
Platinum #3776 Nice Lavande (F)

Back in February I made my first ‘big’ fountain pen purchase, in that I got my first gold nib and broke the £100 barrier. I was nervous to spend so much, but thankfully I’ve never regretted it, as the pen I chose – the Platinum #3776 Nice Lavande – is still my all-time favourite, and the one I use every day in my journal.
Not only is the transparent purple body and rose gold design very ‘me’, but the nib writes incredibly fine and with just the right amount of feedback to make it my perfect pen.
Scribe Pens Pastel Green and Purple (F)

Something I was dying to add to my collection this year was an eye-catching handmade pen from a small maker. And this Diamondcast Green and Purple pen from Scribe Pens definitely fits the bill!
I love the unusual colour combination and the subtle sparkle the material has, plus this pen is easily one of the most comfortable pens to write with in my entire collection, thanks to the indented grip.
I loved this pen so much that I’ve since bought another Scribe Pens pen, which I adore, but I think this first one is still my favourite!
TWSBI Eco Creme and Rose Gold (EF)

This was the first pen I reviewed on this blog, and is still a firm favourite, despite me now owning plenty of more expensive pens. I love the TWSBI Eco in general, and have several (and also have my eye on the new Amazonite one!), but the Creme and Rose Gold is my favourite of all of them!
My Top 3 Fountain Pen Inks of 2024:
Diamine Aurora Borealis

In general, I’m not a fan of blue inks, but this stunning shade of deep teal was an early favourite on my fountain pen journey, that I just can’t seem to shake. It’s very rare for me to not have this inked in a pen, and I can’t see this being an ink I’ll ever get bored with. It’s a staple of my ink collection!
Sailor Ink Studios 573

Whilst I’m not a big fan of brown in general, I’ve discovered a love of brown inks throughout 2024, and my favourite of those is Sailor Ink Studios 573. It’s a beautiful shade of rusty orange-brown, and pairs beautifully with my TWSBI Eco Caffe Bronze. I’ve had this pen and ink combination since I first bought the ink at Choosing Keeping back in July, and I can’t see myself parting with it any time soon!
Robert Oster Dusky Pink

I love the colour pink, but have found it so hard to find good pink inks. Often they lean a little too orange and neony, whilst the more muted ones can be so light they’re illegible in the fine nibs that I prefer. But this dusky purpley pink from Robert Oster is the perfect shade, and never leaves my rotation!
My Top 3 Gel Pens of 2024:
Zebra Sarasa Grande

I really like the Zebra Sarasa, and particularly the more subtle colour palette of the Vintage line. So when I found out you could get the same colours and smooth writing experience in a sleeker, more high-end metal pen body, I couldn’t resist!
I now have two Zebra Sarasa Grande’s and they are some of my favourite gel pens!
Uniball One/Uniball One P

One of my favourite discoveries of 2024 has been the Uniball One and Uniball One P gel pens. Not only do I love the sleek designs and range of colours available, but I also like how smooth and pigmented the refills are, and that you can get them in the 0.38 size (I feel like most gel refills start at 0.5?).
These are now the only pens I ever use at work, and I’ve found myself going through so many refills!
Leuchtturm 1917 Drehgriffel No. 1 Gel Pen

This is an extremely recent discovery, to the extent that I haven’t even reviewed this pen yet. But I love the design so much, as well as the handy twist mechanism at the bottom, and the range of cute colours. I can see more of these making their way into my collection in 2025!
Those were all my pen related stationery favourites of 2024, but look out for the second part, all about planners, notebooks and accessories!
So what were your pen and ink favourites in 2024?
