Review: TWSBI Eco Creme and Rose Gold Fountain Pen

As someone who loves the look of demonstrator fountain pens, the TWSBI Eco has been a firm favourite pen of mine since I first got my hands on one. The cool aesthetics of it, the smooth writing experience, and the huge ink capacity has made it my favourite model of pen, and the temptation to buy more is always there.

So far I’ve confined myself to two: the Transparent Purple and Persian Green, both with a fine nib. But when I saw the announcement of the new Creme model, I knew instantly my resolve wouldn’t hold out, even with the price hike that came along with the rose gold trim.

Sure enough, I snapped it up as soon as I saw it was available on Cult Pens, and it arrived, and now I’m officially in love! This time I went with an extra fine nib, as I wanted this pen to be a potential daily writer, and it’s an absolutely gorgeous pen!

As modern and odd as the TWSBI Eco looks in general, this colour combination of cream and the warmth of the rose gold makes for a particularly attractive pen! As someone who tends to veer away from more neutral colours (‘the brighter the better’ is my usual motto!) this isn’t a pen I would have thought would particularly appeal to me. But something about the colour combination really makes this pen a showstopper, despite its toned down colour palette.

It’s also such a smooth writer, even with the extra fine nib, just like my two other TWSBI Ecos. I immediately filled it up with Diamine Peach Haze, and tested it out, and I’m loving the combination of the brightly coloured ink and the neutral toned pen. It wrote incredibly straight out of the box, and as I hoped, it immediately made its way into the position of an everyday writer for me.

Is it worth the increased price tag over my other two TWSBI Ecos? Both of those cost me £35 each, whilst the Creme/Rose Gold was £48. Objectively it isn’t, since it writes just the same, so it all comes down to how much aesthetics matter to you. This is very much a pen I bought because I liked the look of it, and because I already knew that the TWSBI Eco is a pen I love, and will use often. If you aren’t overly bothered with the rose gold trim then, of course, there’s no point picking this pen over any of the other TWSBI Ecos, since they are the same writing-wise, having the same steel nib, just plated with rose gold.

Overall though, I’d recommend this pen and the TWSBI Eco in general to anyone, especially those just starting out with fountain pens. It’s an easy, none fiddly way to get into using bottled ink (as a piston filler, the TWSBI Eco can’t use ink cartridges), and it’s a smooth, reliable writer, and a visually interesting pen (you can see all the ink just sloshing about in there!).

And this edition…well in my opinion it’s absolutely stunning!

So are you a TWSBI Eco fan? What do you think of the Creme and Rose Gold edition?
