Happy New Year!
2024 seems to have gone by in a flash, and I can’t believe we’re now in 2025! I always really like the energy and sense of possibility New Year gives, and like a lot of people, it’s the time of year I think most about the future, and my goals. I have made a lot of mistakes with goal-setting in the past though, mainly making them too big or difficult, and then they end up fallen by the wayside by February.
So I’ve tried to think realistic with my goals this year, and to set them out in my planner so that they’ll be achievable, and so that I can monitor my progress. A lot of my 2025 goals are to do with my writing projects, reading and exercise, but for the first time ever, I’m also going to be setting some stationery related goals for the year.
2024 was a big stationery year for me, but I think I definitely went way overboard with my level of purchasing. So I want 2025 to be the year where I really start to enjoy my stationery, and get creative.
So here are my 2025 stationery goals:
Buy no more than 10 fountain pens.
My biggest area of stationery spending in 2024 was on fountain pens. I was new to the fountain pen hobby, and so bought a lot of pens in the search for my favourites, and my collection ballooned to an overwhelming number.
Now I know more about my fountain pen likes and dislikes, I only want to add pens I love to my collection, so I’m limiting myself to ten new pens in 2025. That’s still a fairly large number, but will encompass both cheap and expensive pens (so I can’t justify any extra pen purchases just because they’re inexpensive!), so I’ll have to think a lot harder about each of my pen purchases, and whether I want it enough to count against my yearly total.
Swatch all my inks.
My ink collection has also ballooned in the latter half of 2024, and I realised recently that I don’t really have any record of my inks. Sometimes I’ll see some writing in one of my notebooks and love the colour, but not be 100% sure which ink it was.
So I currently have some swatch cards on the way to me, and I’m planning to start the huge undertaking of swatching my entire collection, so I’ll have an easy reference. I think this’ll also stop me buying too many similarly coloured inks, or potentially even doubling up and buying things I already have, but haven’t used in a while.
Be more consistent on this blog.
Inky Imaginings is officially one year old today, as I posted my first blog post on New Year’s Day 2024. And I’ve loved having my own little corner of the internet to discuss stationery, and to get to (virtually) meet so many other pen and stationery enthusiasts.
But I haven’t always been the most consistent with it, sometimes posting multiple times a week, other times going silent for a couple of weeks at a time. So I’d love to be more consistent, and I’m hoping in 2025 to post once a week, which is an amount I think I can definitely keep up with, especially now my work schedule has settled down.
I also feel like I’ve fallen off with reading and commenting on other blogs lately, so I want to get back to being more consistent with that, as one of the biggest joys of blogging is getting to discuss the things you love with other people.
Continue with the Empty Notebook Project.
I discussed my notebook hoarding problem in this post last year, and decided I would make it my mission to start using my poor, neglected empty notebooks. I am making progress on this, and I want to keep it up in 2025, along with my attempts to not buy more – something that’s proving to be even harder than I thought!
Get more creative!
One of the main reasons I got into fountain pens was as an extension of my lifelong love of writing. I was struggling with inspiration when typing my stories on the computer, and so decided to buy myself a nice pen, and try writing by hand – and it worked.
Through the stationery community I’ve also more recently started dabbling with creative journaling, junk journaling and watercolour painting, and it’s just been fun to really indulge my creativity in so many ways.
So in 2025 my main goal is just to use my stationery, and do even more of all these things! In 2025 I hope to write and create more than ever, and to enjoy my stationery collection to the max.
So what are your stationery goals for 2025?
