Review: Meeplus Slimpad

I love my Filofax and Moterm ring planners, but there’s no denying, they’re chunky! Could I just put less inserts in them…well, yes, but I still think the profile of your average Filofax is pretty bulky.

Enter the Meeplus Slimpad!

I’d had my eye on both Plotter and Meeplus’s leather ring binders for quite a while before I bought the Slimpad. Both brand’s products mix the classiness of a leather notebook with the convenience of rings, and do so in a nice, compact package.

Unfortunately, Plotter seems to be pretty much impossible to get here in the UK without jumping through hoops, whereas Meeplus, ships directly to the UK. I dithered for a while about whether to get one, as they are a little pricey (although not as pricey as Plotter!), but when I spotted they now do the Pueblo leather in purple, I could resist no more!

So here it is: the Meeplus Slimpad in Personal size, in purple Pueblo leather. I chose to stick with the default silver spine, and got the silver 13mm rings, plus a purple ring protector, the notebook band insert, and a pack of their lightweight paper refills.

Yes, it was expensive, but when I opened the package, I had no regrets! The Pueblo leather is beautifully textured, so it already looked nicely lived-in on the day it arrived, and the deep aubergine purple is really eye-catching.

Even full of inserts, the Slimpad has an incredibly slim profile, which is bulked up somewhat by the ring protector. But it’s still very compact, and the extra bulk is a small price to pay to protect the leather.

Unlike a lot of ring planners, the Meeplus Slimpad opens nice and flat, and because of the smaller rings, I’ve actually found that I can write on both sides without removing the paper from the binder. Usually with my Filofax Malden I take out any paper that I’m writing on, as the larger rings get in the way of my hand.

Obviously, the downside of the smaller rings is that you can fit less in it, which is why I decided to buy Meeplus’ lightweight paper. And I actually wish I’d got a couple more packs of this whilst I was placing my order, because I am blown away by this paper!

The paper seems similar to Tomoe river paper, as it’s very thin (50 gsm) but handles ink incredibly well, and is lovely and smooth to write on. I did a tester page in the back of my Slimpad, and as you can see, even my medium nib pens didn’t show through the other side. The branding on the paper says Crena, so I may have to look out for some more Crena paper products, as I am really impressed with it!

Overall, I’m really impressed with the Meeplus Slimpad! I debated on making a purchase for a long time, but I definitely think it’s worth the price tag, and I can see this lasting me a lifetime. So far I’ve been using it as an ‘idea-a-day’ journal, where I come up with one idea each day for a story, essay or blog post, so I’ve been writing in here daily, and been really enjoying it.

So what do you think of the Meeplus Slimpad? Are you a fan of leather ring binder planners?
