My Favourite Thing About Jinhao 82s

I’ve spoken before about how much I like Jinhao 82s as inexpensive starter pens. But my absolute favourite thing about them is that you can completely disassemble them and put them back together, meaning that if you have a few of them, you can mix and match the parts, and create your own custom pen.

Because they’re so cheap off places like AliExpress, I have quite a few of them, and so I’ve been having a lot of fun lately creating several Frankenstein Jinhao 82s, and so I thought I’d share them in a post.

Starting out with this brown, sparkly pen:

This pen was already pretty cool when I got it, with the brown sparkly body of the pen contrasted with an off-white, translucent cap. I just swapped out the cap for this sparkly transparent one, and I love the effect! I always really like the dual coloured nibs on the Jinhao 82s with the gold accents, and I like the way this transparent cap shows it off.

I also used the body of the transparent sparkly Jinhao I stole the cap off for this next pen:

I swapped it for the body of this sparkly pink pen, and I love being able to see the matching pink ink in the converter, through the pen!

The next two Jinhao 82s I bought specifically to mix up the parts. I got a purple pen and an off-white pen, both with silver accents, and then swapped the finials to make these really cute pastel pens:

The next two pens are kind of cool, but to be honest, are mostly just using up spare parts I had from my other Jinhao 82 creations.

The green pen, for example, has white finials just because I no longer have the green ones. I made my nephew a custom Jinhao 82 that was completely transparent with green finials, so I no longer have them. But my nephew’s pen was really cool, and he loved it! And I quite like the way this green pen now looks with the little pop of white.

The white pen has red finials that were originally from the transparent pen I gave my nephew, and I also quite like this design. It just makes what would otherwise be a plain white pen more interesting!

I then have three more Jinhao 82s. One of them is just comprised of spare parts from other pens, and isn’t something I ever plan on inking up and using, as it’s a little weird looking:

The other two are this blue sparkly pen and this ‘Winter Snow’ pen that I like too much to take apart!

So do you like Jinhao 82s? And have you ever made your own Frankenstein Jinhao 82?

I didn’t really know the term Frankensteining until a while back. The first time I came across it was in those cases when people repaired fountain pens and they didn’t always find the right parts. Using parts from other broken pens was often the solution. Frankensteining, in other words. Now that you already have a large collection of Jinhao 82 you can really make the craziest combinations. Since green is my favorite color, I really prefer the green one with the white tops, a beauty! Do you now have a matching ink for each one?

I have matching inks for some of them, but I haven’t yet found matches for others. The brown one I usually have inked with Diamine Saddle Brown, and the pink sparkly one usually has Diamine Pink in it. The green one I’ve tried Diamine Meadow in, but I’m now looking out for a darker green to try, and I want to find a nice purple ink for the two purple and white pens, which are new. Hopefully eventually I will have perfect ink matches for each of them!

It seems that many people are crazy about Diamine ink. They offer a wide range, so plenty of choice. I have the Diamine Oxblood, Skull and roses and Ancient Copper. It’s been a while since I’ve used Damine, so they’ll be a candidate for the next swap 🙂

I really like Diamine ink, as they have a good range, for a good price. I have Oxblood and Ancient Copper too, and they’re great colours! 🙂
