A while ago I reviewed the Luddite Bendy Pen Case, and really liked it, but felt it was a bit impractical for my needs. I was incredibly impressed with the quality though, so I ended up buying another Luddite case as part of my quest to find my perfect pen case. And having tested it for a week on a trip to Scotland, I can confirm I’ve found it!
The Luddite Random Denim Zipper Case is a compact pen case, similar in size and layout to the Lihit Lab Compact Pen Case, and the Hobonichi Small Drawer Pouch. My favourite thing about this particular pen case is that it is made from random denim, so no two pen cases will be exactly the same. I was slightly worried that the one I received wouldn’t be as nice as the one in the promotional photo, but I was delighted to see this one has a great mix of the different kinds of denim, ranging from plain, to striped, spotted and distressed.

The dark denim is nicely complimented by some brown piping around the edges, and the brown Luddite tag on the front. Again, I was impressed with the quality, as it feels like a sturdy pen case that I’m not worried about throwing in my bag and taking around with me.

Inside it’s lined with a black waterproof canvas material, the left side having two pockets, and the right side having a brown faux leather strap where you can clip your pens. The strap isn’t ideal if your pen doesn’t have a clip, and I might have preferred another pocket, but you can always put any clipless pens on the other side.

This is how I packed the pen case for my Scotland trip, and you can see I had plenty of room for my supplies.

In the two pockets I put a ruler, a pair of scissors and my Asvine C80 fountain pen, and I clipped a Pentel Energel and a TWSBI Eco on the other side. I then put my bulky date stamp loose next to the pens, which thankfully didn’t cause a problem when zipping the pen case.
This case was great for travelling, as it fit everything in, but didn’t take up much room in my bag. My only criticism of it is that I noticed that the tight clip of my TWSBI Eco did mark the brown material of the strap, but I don’t mind too much. It will go with the distressed look of the outside of the pen case!

On the whole, I’m totally in love with this pen case! I always really liked the layout of my Lihit Lab Compact case, but I’ll be the first person to say it isn’t the most aesthetic. This denim patchwork case has the same compact layout, but looks much cuter, and the fabric feels sturdy and high quality. I bought this for £23.99 from Art From The Heart, and I think that’s a fair price for a pen case I can see lasting me for a very long time!
So what do you think of the Luddite Random Denim Zipper Case? What’s your favourite pen case to use for travel?
