Review: Nahvalur Voyage Pride 2024 Fountain Pen

As much as I’ve come to appreciate neutral pens recently, brightly coloured pens are my first loves. And so when the Nahvalur Voyage Pride 2024 pen was announced, I was immediately enchanted. I managed to resist preordering it, since I’d already spent quite a lot on pens recently, but I kept looking at it longingly!

Thankfully, my amazing fiancé ended up buying it for me as an anniversary gift, and I’m so excited to finally have it in my hands! I’d been very curious as to what it would look like in real life, as the perils of this kind of pen is that each one is going to be unique and not look exactly like the promotional photos, or even like other people’s version of the same pen. And because this is so new out, I couldn’t find too many photos of it online beyond the promo photos, anyway.

But thankfully when I finally got mine I was blown away when I opened the packaging, because it was such a pretty pen! It definitely looks a lot different than the promo photos, which showed a pen with a lot of bright red on it, whilst my pen has barely any red on it, but lots of orange. Some colours almost look a little neon, they’re so bright, which wasn’t really translated through Nahvalur’s initial images, and neither was the slight sparkle this pen has. Luckily, I love this, and I adore my pen, but perhaps bear in mind if you buy it that it looks a lot different from the initial images, and there’s a lot of variation in individual pens.

This is actually my first Nahvalur pen, so I was also really curious as to what the writing experience would be like. But thankfully I really loved that as well! I felt like there were so many colour options to choose from when inking this pen, but in the end I chose Waterman Harmonious Green, and I love how smoothly and wetly this pen writes, even with a fine steel nib.

The Nahvalur Voyage is quite a large pen, being a little longer than a TWSBI Eco. In fact, the only pens in my collection as big as it are my Jinhao x159s, and my handmade pen from Scribe Pens. It’s also quite an unusual shape, similar to a cigar pen, but with much rounder edges, and a more consistent width, which makes it quite unique looking.

The pen isn’t postable, but as a bigger pen I don’t really mind that, as it’s a comfortable size to use unposted. It also has a slight indentation in the grip section, which makes it comfortable to hold and use for longer writing sessions.

The Nahvalur Voyage is a piston filler pen, which I like, but I had a little trouble getting a good fill, which is a problem I often have with piston filler pens like this where I can’t see the ink chamber. The pen has an ink window at the base of the grip section, which is how I could tell I didn’t get the greatest fill, as I can only see the ink when I tip the pen up!

It also has a nice gold clip to match the gold trim on the rest of the pen, and a gold finial that shows the pen number, as this is a limited edition pen. From what I’ve seen though it doesn’t look like this pen will be too hard to get hold of for the moment, as it’s still available on a lot of the major stationery websites a few weeks after release.

So if you’re in the market for a fun, brightly coloured pen I’d highly recommend this one, as it’s so pretty! I’ve also been tempted by the Nahvalur Pride Key West, which is also beautiful, and at a much lower price point, so maybe I’ll snap that one up too. Some of the proceeds from the sale of both Nahvalur Pride pens goes to the It Gets Better Project, so you get a nice pen, and some of your money goes to an LGBTQ+ nonprofit!

So what do you think of the Nahvalur Voyage Pride 2024 fountain pen? And what do you think about Nahvalur pens in general?

Based on my pen preferences, I would expect to love this one, but something about it didn’t pull me in. It’s pretty, though, and I do love the Nautilus/Voyage model shape.

I’ve definitely had that experience before with a pen that seems like something I should like. My wallet is usually glad when that happens though!
