My Most Used Pens and Inks – January 2024

When I did my Currently Inked record at the start of January 2024, I had a massive 24 fountain pens inked. I bought so many pens at the end of 2023, and so inked them all up to try them out, which is why I had so many inked up at once. At the end of the month, I’ve managed to get that number down to 21, but obviously that’s still a lot of pens, and not all of them have been getting as much use as I’d have liked.

However, there are several pens I’ve been using pretty consistently throughout the month, so I thought I’d post about them.

The pens that tend to get the most use every month are the ones that I have inked up with plain black ink, as that’s the colour I use in both my morning pages journal, and my Hobonichi Weeks. I try to have at least two different pens inked with black ink, and then I’m not using the same pen every day, and this month the main ones were my black and white Pokemon Pilot Kakuno that I got for Christmas, and my Cult Pens Exclusive Silver Kaweco Sport. Both of them had black ink cartridges in, and I actually wrote the Pilot Kakuno dry, so I need to clean that out and swap it for another pen that I’ll ink up with black for next month.

Two of my other most used pens this month were two of my TWSBI Ecos, one in Persian Green, inked with Diamine Meadow, and the other Creme with Rose Gold, inked up with Diamine Peach Haze. I’ve been using the green TWSBI Eco to work on my handwritten novel project (I swap out the ink colour every two chapters, and Diamine Meadow is the current colour I’m using), and the cream TWSBI Eco is just one of my current favourite pens, so I’ve been using it for notes a lot, just because I want to use it!

In terms of non-fountain pens, my two most used pens have coincidentally both been brown/neutral pens, which isn’t my usual aesthetic! I’ve been using this Agenzio ballpoint pen every day to fill in my One Line A Day journal. I previously reviewed the pink version of this pen, but my sister bought me the oatmeal version, and I’ve been really loving it!

I’ve also been using this Uni-ball One mini pen in coffee brown, and it’s such a great little writer! I’ve been using this in my Moleskine notebook, since the paper in it isn’t great for fountain pens, and even though it’s more of a gel-style pen, I’ve had no major problems with ghosting or bleed through. I’ll probably do a proper review soon, but I love the chunkiness of it, and how comfortable it is to hold. I have a couple of full size Uni-ball One pens on the way too, so I’m curious how they will compare.

So what pens and inks have you been using most this month? How many pens do you keep inked at once and do you use them all often?

It’s amazing how you succeed in managing 24 inked fountain pens :-). Most of the time I only have 8 fountain pens inked. 2 of them inked with waterproof ink, the other ones I change every now and then. I don’t have a system to determine which ink goes into which pen, it’t just a feeling. I try to use all my ink bottles as much as possible. I now really have the intention to do a weekly swap, this means cleaning one pen thoroughly and replacing it with a new fountain pen. Best of luck with your fountain pens and blog!

I wish I had the self control to just have 8 pens inked! I feel like 24 is too many, but I just keep buying more pens though, and then I want to try them out! I love the idea of doing a weekly swap! That seems like a good way of using all of your inks. And thanks! 🙂
