Review: Pilot Juice Gel Pen

Fountain pens may be my first loves, but gel pens are a close second. And in my quest to try out all the popular gel pens, I recently picked up these two Pilot Juice pens:

I bought these pens for £1.95 from AliExpress, and was really impressed with the range of colours available. It was hard to choose, but in the end I went for the Rose Pink in 0.38, and Gray in 0.5.

These gel pens aren’t the most exciting looking compared to the likes of the Uniball One, although I do always like a transparent pen, and the rubbery grip section is comfortable in the hand. The Pilot Juice does feel a little flimsier than some of my other gel pens, but I appreciate the springy clip, as you don’t feel like you’re going to snap the clip every time you try to clip it onto something.

Upon testing out the two pens, I loved the Rose Pink colour, but found the 0.38 tip to be a little scratchy to write with. The 0.5 tip was nice and smooth though, and I like the Gray colour, as it was light but legible (not that it looks that way on the photo, but I always find it hard to get good pictures of writing samples!). Both pens seemed to have a good ink flow, and I had no problems with skipping.

Overall, I like these pens, but they aren’t my favourite. Their selling point for me is the huge range of colour options available, and I likely will get a couple more in the 0.5 size, to try out some other colours. In terms of aesthetics and writing experience though, my heart still belongs to the Uniball One!

So are you a fan of the Pilot Juice? What is your favourite gel pen?
