Fountain pen day is an amazing time to get great deals on pens, so I usually try to hold off until then to pick up a lot of my wish list items. This year I got 2 pens that have been on my wish list for a while from Cult Pens, as they had a 10% deal.
My first pen bargain was the TWSBI Eco Amazonite. I’ve had my eye on this since it came out, as I love a good pastel colour, and the marble effect really sets it apart from my other TWSBI pens.

It’s really pretty, and since I bought it with a medium nib, I feel like I’ve finally found the perfect pen for an ink I’ve had for a while, Ferris Wheel Press Morningside Mint. I love the colour of this ink, but I’ve previously struggled with the legibility of it in some of the finer nibbed pens I tend to favour. However, it works great in this pen (not that it looks that legible in the photo!) and the colour is a perfect match.

The second pen I bought was a Sailor 1911 Hoshizora, which is a Cult Pens Exclusive. Since Sailors are quite expensive, and come out with new, beautiful editions of their pens constantly, I did make a couple of rules for myself around Sailor pens in the early days of my fountain pen hobby.
Rule 1: I can only have one of each model of pen.
Rule 2: I can only have one of each nib size.

Before fountain pen day my collection consisted of a Sailor Shikiori Tsukuyo-no-Minamo Yozakura (with a fine steel nib), a Sailor Pro Gear Slim Grateful Crane (with a medium fine gold nib) and a Sailor Pro Gear Cantaloupe from the Smoothie series (with a fine gold nib – and I’m not counting that as a double up, because gold nibs are different than steel!).
So this new addition to my Sailor collection ticks two boxes: a Sailor 1911 and a medium nib.

I’ll probably do a full review of this pen, but in short, I love it! The starry night effect is absolutely stunning, and I’m liking my first experience with a medium Sailor nib. It’s actually much juicier than I expected it to be, and whilst it is nice and smooth, I’m glad it has a hint of that classic Sailor feedback in there too.

I have it inked with Diamine Aurora Borealis, which as a teal ink isn’t a perfect match, but I am enjoying the combination.
So overall I’m very pleased with my fountain pen day haul. Did you buy anything for fountain pen day?
