Review: Leonardo Momento Zero Nuvola Lilac Fountain Pen

As I mentioned in my ‘Fountain Pen Brands I Want To Try’ post, Leonardo has been high on my to-buy list for a while. It was actually the original blue Momento Zero Nuvola that I had my eye on, and I almost pulled the trigger on it so many times. But in the end I’m so glad I resisted, because recently they released the same pen in my favourite colour: lilac.

As soon as the lilac version was announced, I knew it had to be my first Leonardo pen. But I controlled myself until Fountain Pen Day, and Stilo & Stile’s 10% off sale, and so got a great deal on this beautiful pen, and the ink I bought alongside it, Wearingeul Jane Eyre.

I opted to get the pen with a fine nib and the rose gold trim, because if there’s a rose gold option available, I’ll always go for it! I was slightly nervous about what my actual pen would look like, as with resin pens like this where each one is unique, you can’t guarantee a good mix of the colours, or a satisfying pattern. I’ve seen a couple of pictures of these pens where they are mostly purple, so I was hoping mine would be OK.

But thankfully, I love the pen that I got! It has the perfect mix of lilac and white, and the photos really didn’t do justice to what a nice touch the lines separating the colours are. I actually thought from the promotional images that the separating lines were brown, but in real life they’re bronze, which matches nicely with the rose gold trim. I also love that I got this huge patch of bronze bleeding out of the lines at the bottom of my pen, which makes for a nice bit of extra sparkle!

In terms of size, I really like this pen. It’s not huge (there is a Grande version of the Momento Zero, which I believe is bigger), but is big enough to be used comfortably without posting, which is good, as I don’t feel like it posts too securely.

I also like that this pen has quite a large nib, so when you’re writing with it you don’t feel too close to the paper, and the steel nib is lovely and smooth, even in a fine.

The Momento Zero Nuvola is a cartridge converter pen, but I like how the converter screws securely into the pen, and is actually large enough that you can just remove the pen’s end cap to twist it, more like a piston-filler. I prefer to be able to see the converter, so I know whether I got a good fill, so I just unscrewed the grip section to fill it, but it’s nice to have options!

And as for my pen and ink match, I’m very pleased! I specifically chose the Wearingeul Jane Eyre ink because I thought it would go well with this pen, and I really do like the combination. The dusty purple of the ink is perhaps a smidgen too light for such a fine nib, but the writing is still perfectly legible.

For quite a while the Leonardo Momento Zero Nuvola was something of a grail pen for me, especially when the Lilac version was released. So I’m so glad it hasn’t been a disappointment, and has quickly become one of my favourite pens. It’s certainly one of the prettiest pens in my collection!

So what do you think of the Leonardo Momento Zero Nuvola Lilac? Do you have any Leonardo pens? What do you think about them?
